The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) expresses our profound gratitude to the National Disability Services (NDS) for their unwavering support and collaboration with Every Australian Counts (EAC) since its inception in 2011. NDS’s commitment and support has been instrumental in the grassroots campaign that led to the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Over the years, NDS worked diligently alongside AFDO and Carers Australia to form and develop the National Disability & Carer Alliance which formed EAC. Later we were joined by Mental Health Australia to further strengthen our sector understanding. Since 2022, the Alliance has been dedicated to strategising for EAC to become more independent. The initial steps have been successfully undertaken with the appointment of an independent chair for and now a further expansion of the EAC Steering Committee.

As NDS steps down from the Steering Committee, we acknowledge their substantial contributions, and wish them every success. We look forward to continuing the EAC mission for a better NDIS with the steadfast support of Australians with disabilities. ensuring that EAC remains a strong, independent advocate for NDIS issues.

About AFDO

For over twenty years, the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO), a Disabled Peoples Organisation (DPO), is the pre-eminent national peak in the disability sector, along with its disability specific and population-based disability organisations, representing people with disability with a total reach of over 4 million Australians.

AFDO continues to provide a strong, trusted, independent voice for the disability sector on national policy, inquiries, submissions, systemic advocacy and advisory on government initiatives with the Federal and State/Territory governments.

We work to develop a community where people with disability can participate in all aspects of social, economic, political and cultural life. This includes genuine participation in mainstream community life, the development of respectful and valued relationships, social and economic participation, and the opportunity to contribute as valued citizens.
